This was stated in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the completion of the examinations conducted by the Ephorate of Ancient Antiquities of Eastern Attica in the areas affected by the last catastrophic fire.

In the Municipality of Oropos (DE Kapandritiou), on the hill of Kotroni, believed to be the site of the ancient acropolis of Aphidna, where important architectural remains have been discovered in recent years, although the fire burned the slopes of the hill, the archeological site was not damaged at all.

In the Municipality of Marathon, in the Archeological Museum of Marathon, in the area of ​​the museum with the tombs of Vranas and Plataea, in the organized and visitable archaeological areas of the Municipality (the archaeological sites of Rhamnountos, the Athenaeum tomb, the Egyptian sanctuaries) , in the city of Brexis of Nea Makris ), the fire did not cause any problems.

In the declared, expropriated and fenced archaeological site of Oinoia Marathon, much of the vegetation surrounding the Byzantine tower of Oinoia has been burned. The small post-Byzantine church of the Holy Apostles, which has no wall decoration inside, was seriously damaged. on the roof and in the modern plastering of its interior walls. The new roof and interior of the post-Byzantine church of Agios Athanasios in Kalendzi Marafonos were also severely damaged. The frescoes were not damaged.

In Dionysos Municipality, the fenced archaeological site (Ikarion), (shrines of Dionysos and Apollo, theater, etc.) and the burial site were not damaged except for the fence. The surrounding green area is also unharmed.

In the municipality of Penteli, in the areas of the quarries, at the beginning of Lithagogias Street, the cave of Amomo (Cave of Daveli) and the two temples located at its entrance, no damage was recorded except for minor parts. located on the ground. Part of Lithagogias Street, in a more southerly position, near the Church of the Holy Assumption, was blackened by the fire. The situation is completely reversed.

Other individual monuments were not damaged. In many cases, the surrounding vegetation was burnt.”
