The International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Art and Tourism approved the inclusion of Crete in the Gastronomic Regions of Europe during the Board meeting.
The island was declared “Gastronomic Region of Europe for 2026” by the unanimous decision of the Committee of Experts who recently visited it.
With the unanimous decision of the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism, it is a development with special symbolism, but also of special value, as it reinforces the distinct identity of Crete that has been formed over the years.
A personality with strong historical characteristics, hidden in the land of Crete for centuries and revealed through great archaeological discoveries. At the same time, an identity focused on the present and the future, the uniqueness of Cretan gastronomy constitutes a special element of our cultural heritage.
